Minimal
It’s literally seamless.
Mark One has a completely seamless design, which was quite an engineering feat. The pen has no excess ornamentation or logo, and comes in several colors. The polished steel knocks provide a nice little accent to each, and give Mark One a sophisticated look without looking overly tactical.

Durable
Made to last a lifetime.
Mark One is incredibly durable. It is made entirely out of metal, including the custom click mechanism. The pen is coated with Cerakote, which is an extremely durable ceramic-polymer coating (technical specifications for Cerakote). It gives the pen a really nice, matte feel. This pen should last a lifetime.

Retractable
A completely custom click mechanism.
There are many off-the-shelf click mechanisms we could have used, but none of them were quite right for what we wanted, so naturally, we made our own. It is made entirely out of metal and, as far as we know, it is the only all-metal mechanism on the market that has an actual “click” action. It is satisfying as heck to click.

Refill
Built for an amazing rollerball refill.
Mark One ships with our favorite refill, the Schmidt P8126 rollerball. This is a fantastic cartridge; the ink flows smoothly and dries quickly. However, Mark One will accept any Parker-style refill, which means there are many options for pen cartridges that our pen will accept. Check out our refill guide for other options, or purchase more refills here.

Yes! Mark One will accept any Parker-style refill. We wrote up an extensive guide here. Mark One ships with our favorite refill, the Schmidt P8126 rollerball, and you can purchase more of those here.
What configurations and colors does Mark One come in?
Mark One is available in many colorways, which you can see in the selector at the top of the page. Mark One is also available in two different body materials: aluminum and steel. Steel weights about twice as much as aluminum, so choose that if you prefer a heftier, weightier pen.
How long is the Mark One?
Mark One is 128 mm (~5 inches) long.
What color ink does Mark One come with?
Mark One comes with black ink. You can purchase blue ink here.
Can I personalize the Mark One with engravings or logos?
We don’t offer one-off customizations (see next question), but if you have access to a laser engraver, go wild. The Cerakote will cleanly laser off, revealing the metal body beneath.
Do you offer custom branding for bulk or corporate orders of the Mark One?
Yes we do! We offer customization for the Mark One for orders of 30 units or more. We will guide you through the process of creating a Mark One that is truly custom made for your brand. Some of you skeptics may be wondering why all the praise. It’s only a pen, right?
Wrong.
Spend a decade purchasing every titanium Kickstarter EDC pen, spending way too much on the big brand writing instruments, relenting and going back to basic ballpoints, rollerballs, and gel pens, only to feel left wanting, then your views might change.
Fountain pens are fun… for a while. But if your work or lifestyle demands you write a lot, refilling the ink every few days can get exhausting. And messy. They’re buttery smooth, to be sure, but they’re also high maintenance.
As for the others, looks can be deceiving. That titanium EDC may have a glossy shine, but the pen nib wiggles in the barrel, and the ink smears everywhere. Sometimes, the barrel is too long, and other times, it is too short. The CNC machine grip is visually appealing but functionally appalling. The idea sparkles, but the product rarely exceeds the hype.
And don’t get me wrong, some classics are classics for a reason. However, plastic molding lacks the heft and form that exudes quality. Many break prematurely. Others require a firm press to get ink on paper, which is fine for a moment. But for those writing for hours, hand cramps are a real thing. And the lightweight plastic pens are fantastic at providing them.
The Studio Neat Mark One resolves all these concerns. It writes easily, feels great in the hand, looks good, and that CLICK… it just doesn’t get any better. The overall quality is obvious.
Talk to the Studio Neat team if you have concerns about it. They don’t lie about their warranty. I chipped a limited edition, and they resolved my concerns immediately without hesitation.
As you can obviously tell, I’m a big fan. I waited years before purchasing my first Mark One because I was sick of overspending on low-quality products and worried my shiny object syndrome was getting the better of me. But in this case, what you see is really what you get.
The Mark One by Studio Neat is minimalist perfection. It is high quality, and their other products are no different.
If you’re an avid writer who appreciates quality, the Studio Neat Mark One is for you.
Full disclosure: I own the steel version of the Mark One. I cannot speak for the aluminum build, but given my experience with this, I imagine the quality is no different. I also own the Cosmonaut, as well as several of the Totebooks. I also have the walnut version of the Pen Tray. I’ve been using their products for about 18 months, and genuinely have no regrets with any of my purchases. And no, Studio Neat did not pay me to write this review. I’m just happy with their products and appreciate how they do business. They deserve the raving review. Enough said!
I recently purchased the new Orange Mark One with clip. I couldn’t be happier with this pen. I love the mark one in general and with the addition of a clip it’s an added feature that I really like. It’s a solid EDC pen. It has, in my opinion, the best refill. It writes like a dream!
Love the color orange—came out so good! And the clip is perfect. I’d added aftermarket to my other Mark Ones, but this is the best version yet.
Mark One
Bought this as a gift for a friend who is very particular about pens. He loves it (totally worth the splurge)!
