Studio Neat is Looking for a Jr. Product Engineer/Designer (Part Time, Remote)

We are looking to hire a Jr. product engineer/designer to help us realize new products at Studio Neat. They will work directly the founders, Tom & Dan, to move products from idea to production via design revisions in CAD, creating technical drawings, and communicating with manufacturers. The ideal person has strong CAD, engineering, and design skills, and an interest in making physical products. An "inventor type" is another good way of describing what we are looking for.

Initially the position is part-time, but would ideally transition to full time as we grow. Remote is ok, no formal education is required, but we'll want to see a portfolio.

  • Meet with Tom & Dan weekly and present progress on engineering and design for various products. Get feedback, and progress the design in a self directed manner over the week.
  • Produce technical dimension drawings and spec documents to send to suppliers.
  • Be the point of contact with manufacturers for the product you are working on.
  • Occasionally produce or design prototypes for exploring a design. (No tools required, but might be a plus.)
  • Submit RFQs and conduct research on manufacturing processes and suppliers.

Skills and Expertise:
  • Strong intuitive sense of engineering and manufacturing. You don't need formal engineering training, but should be interested in how things are made and put together.
  • Comfort with making design decisions and receiving feedback on them. Tom & Dan will direct major design goals and decisions, but it will be a collaborative effort with you doing the work to realize the vision.
  • Strong parametric CAD skills, ideally in Fusion 360 or OnShape.
  • Willingness to research and figure out new manufacturing techniques and processes.

  • This is for a remote position, ideally within North American time zones.
  • Scope: 10-15 hours a week initially, but could expand very easily 20+.
  • Should be able to start by early June.
